    The Sound of Democracy (Trailer)

This is the trailer for the 2013 documentary film "The Sound of Democracy".

    SYNOPSIS

In a sleepy colonial town in Northeastern Brazil, three candidates are campaigning to unseat the mayor, banking on divine intervention, vote buying, the propagation of Marxist ideals or the latest reggae sound to help their campaigns.

Though the days of slavery are long gone, the town’s population remains impoverished and the municipality’s development is held back by a tradition of corruption and entrenched political interests.

While well-oiled campaign machines hold out the promise for a better future, one candidate takes on the political establishment and sets out in a lone effort to convince voters that things are not as they seem.

As religion, money and politics intersect during the campaign trail, the film reveals the challenges of democracy and the pitfalls of electoral politics in Brazil.

    PRODUCTION NOTES

The documentary was shot entirely on the Canon 5D Mark II and the 550D. Filming took place in the municipality of Alcântara (in the Brazilian state of Maranhão) during the fall of 2012. Postproduction was finalised in late 2013 and the film is now being circulated to relevant film festivals worldwide. We are currently looking for distribution!
